Working with the Stenotic Valve Safely
Perioperative Management & Optimization of Patients with Stenotic Valvular Lesions
A Masterclass with Dr. Robert Deegan
We are delighted to welcome Dr. Robert Deegan, a distinguished professor and cardiothoracic anesthesiologist, for an essential deep dive into the preoperative management and optimization of patients with stenotic valvular lesions—a high‑stakes clinical scenario where precision can change outcomes.
About the Speaker
Dr. Deegan is a Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, one of the world’s premier institutions for perioperative and critical care echocardiography. As a cardiothoracic anesthesiologist, he brings decades of experience managing complex valve disease in the operating room and beyond.
He also serves as the Director of Perioperative Echocardiography at Vanderbilt, where he trains fellows, residents, and colleagues in the art and science of advanced cardiac imaging.
Beyond Nashville, Dr. Deegan has a deep and ongoing commitment to global health education in Ethiopia. He has made multiple trips to Mekele and Addis Ababa University to provide POCUS training in resource‑limited settings. Most recently, he completed two weeks at Black Lion Hospital (Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital) , working directly with cardiac anesthesia fellows during their current cardiac surgical campaign—teaching at the bedside, in the OR, and in the echo lab.

Renal Replacement Therapy in the Critically Ill
Timing, Modalities, and Hemodynamic Navigation
A Practical Session with Dr. Yohannes Constable
We are excited to welcome Dr. Yohannes Constable, a rising leader in cardiac critical care, for a clear, practical, and evidence‑grounded session on Renal Replacement Therapy (RRT) — a therapy as nuanced as it is life‑saving.
About the Speaker
Dr. Constable is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative Care, and Pain Medicine at NYU Grossman School of Medicine in New York City. He is dual fellowship‑trained in Cardiac Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine — a combination that gives him unique insight into the fragile intersection of heart failure, shock, and kidney injury.
His clinical training was completed at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he had the privilege of learning directly from Dr. Robert Deegan, Dr. Berhane Sileshi, and Dr. Christina Jelly — mentors he still names with deep gratitude.
Since 2022, Dr. Constable has been actively involved in POCUS training and now serves as a POCUS instructor for residents and fellows in the Department of Anesthesiology at NYU, teaching the next generation of physicians to integrate ultrasound into everyday critical care.
